Monday Update--randomness
Dec. 19th, 2005 10:56 amSo here I am, sitting on the floor in front of one of the two bay windows in our apartment, waiting. For what, you say? Well, in the long term, for jobs to open up. In the not-so-long term, waiting two more days for our stuff to arrive. And in the short term? For our laundry to finish. I've brought our stuff up to the place again so I can have me some clean threads again. :)
Nothing too big to report, as Emm has done so in one of her last posts. Nothing but just kicking back and waiting.
Oh, and I'll have you know that we spent all evening watching TLC's "What Not to Wear" marathon, oblivious to the fact that our Fearless Leader had given a speech. D'OH! :p
I'm kind of annoyed that I can't get Launchcast to run (then again, I'm running on someone's wifi, so streaming is sketchy at best), but instead I'm relying on my old standby, K-ROCK2.com. At least I can get some tunage in this otherwise empty apartment!!!
So I've got a few things I'm waiting on right now in the package department...something from my sister, something from my mother-in-law, and the modem for our DSL hookup from SBCGlobal via UPS. Which is partly why I'm here--just to kick around and hope that I'm here when packages arrive. I'm thinking of setting up one of those Mailboxes Etc. accounts that they have across the street at the shopping center.
My money is slowly shrinking--I've enough to keep me for a little while longer, but I've got to watch myself--but thinking about it, almost everything I've paid for has been either necessities or the occasional splurge. And I haven't bought any cds!!! Good god, what's wrong with me?? :p Seriously, I've spent a lot on food (living in a hotel for a week and a half can get pretty damn expensive), bought us a phone and other household items, and whatnot. I'm already on the list of a small number of temp agencies in the area, so that's a good start. And at some point today I hope to go over to the B&N down the street and ask for an application. But in the meantime, I have to curtail any spending...
Let's see, what else...
I really need a radio right now. I want to see what stations are in the area, which ones would be the ones I'd listen to while writing. Internet Radio does have its merits, but I don't get the niftiness of local bands and whatnot. And as much as I like K-ROCK2, it really hasn't changed its playlist since I started listening to it while at PwC and I can only hear the same songs for so long. Although
Emm and I went to the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art yesterday. Lots of interesting stuff! The museum seemed a little on the small side--it had a neat collection, but its special exhibits seemed a bit on the LARGE side. Currently they're doing a Chuck Close retrospective, and even though his paintings and pictures are interesting, there's only so many "self-portraits" of the same person over the span of four decades I can take! :p Although I can say I was thrilled to see Marcel Duchamp's "Fountain" there... :D The only thing we skipped was the Kiki Smith exhibit, which just seemed a bit too confrontational/deliberately shocking/dog-crap-on-sidewalk-as-art type of art. Anyway, after that we went across the street and walked through Yerba Buena Gardens, which is a nice smallish park that has a lot of neat greenery that Emm quite liked. Next door to that was Metreon, a mall-type shopping place. I hesitate to call it a mall as it kind of looked like one but was actually more like a jumbled mess of walk-through stores, kiosks and theaters made to look EXTREMELY flashy. My brain hurt after leaving that place...too...shiny.... (NOTE: I will say that there's a Warhammer-friendly game store in there that I think
Hmm. I'm thinking I should probably go down and check the laundry, as I put it in a good 45 minutes ago...I should probably call Comcast as well, as I said I would...
More soon as we get more of our stuff in this place...
