So. Let me tell you what happened with this FedEx package of three rather lightweight but nice things I ordered for [livejournal.com profile] emmalyon back on 11/27. The company itself is quite nice, and got the delivery out on the road by 11/29.

I had to physically go to a FedEx station today--during time I should have been at work, I might add--and pick it up.

Today, the 14th of December. That's sixteen days for something that should have taken about four.

So how did this happen?

12/3, the day it was supposed to be delivered: We get a buzz at eleven at night, when we're both in bed and just about falling asleep. By the time it registers in my brain that that was our door buzzer, I hear a truck drive away.

12/4, the next day: [livejournal.com profile] emmalyon and I are heading out for a walk to Laurel Village for coffee. We see a FedEx slip on the door, and in some illegible scribble, the apartment number listed might say 201 or 301, but we're not sure. Since we're heading out, I figure I'll see if the slip's still there when we return. It isn't, so I assume that it was for our neighbor.

12/5 or so: Completely unrelated to our package woes, we get a FedEx delivery at 8:30pm for something Emm ordered. We both are a bit confused as to the lateness, but are happy that it's delivered.

12/10 or so: In the frenzy of expecting packages from various places, it completely slips my mind until midweek before I realize I hadn't seen the expected box yet. That Saturday I go to the email from the company and check the tracking at the FedEx site. I'm somewhat surprised to find out that this package was in fact the one that was attempted to be delivered on 12/3 and has been tagged as "held at FedEx location per customer request".

So of course Emm and I are understandably pissed, because:
a) We did not request a shipment hold at all.
b) FedEx, like UPS, tries three times to deliver before they hold it at the FedEx office. There was only one try, and a bizarrely-timed one at that.

So Emm and I both call FedEx for an explanation and a request to have this delivered ASAP to us. The normal FedEx number suggests we call the toll free FedEx number, and talk to a rep to have it delivered. Fine, we do that. They state it should be delivered on Monday.

12/12, Monday: Coming home from work, I don't see a box sitting out near the mailboxes. Nor do I see any FedEx slips. Nor do I see it outside our door, as sometimes our neighbors are nice enough to leave it there. I go online and check the tracking again. The status still says "Dec. 5: Held at FedEx location for recipient pickup." Fuming, I call the 800 number again and demand that they do something about it. They say it'll be delivered soon.

12/13, Tuesday: Still nothing. Call again, pissed off that it's STILL in the same status. I demand to speak to a supervisor at this time and lay into them. The supervisor, bless his heart, is gobsmacked that this is happening, and sets up something with the FedEx location to have it delivered the next day before 5pm, and goes so far as to say he'll monitor it to make sure it gets out.

12/14, Today: Hey, guess what? Still nothing, still in "held" status! So at this time, when I really should be having lunch, I call the number, get a manager, and say I want the package here TODAY BEFORE 5PM, AS PROMISED. That particular supervisor is also surprised and I think even a little embarrassed that this is happening, and sets up a call tag to have it delivered...

...tomorrow.

FUCK THAT, I say (well, not in those words, but something similar and a bit cleaner).

I ask for the phone number of the place it's being held, and ask why the hell it's not been delivered. The manager there is equally confused and gobsmacked, and says that it's a good thing I'd called, because it was on the pile of boxes to be sent back to the sender and was going out by tomorrow.

What. The. HELL.

Fine, I say. I'm coming over there RIGHT NOW and picking it up just to get this over and done with.

I ping one of my bosses and say I'll be late getting back online, and head out to pick it up. The box is now behind me on the floor, with a nice big "Hold at Location" sticker THAT WE DID NOT REQUEST on it.

And that's how I received my presents for [livejournal.com profile] emmalyon via FedEx this month.

I'm somewhat afraid that the two boxes my family sent the other day may suffer the same fate, but I hope not.
