42: Perhaps

jon_chaissonCertainly, I'm hiding behind the fountain of my youth
Distancing myself from the present tensions
And perhaps hoping it'll all wash out in the end.
Of course, I'm waiting for someone to come to their senses
Letting them fight it out with rocks and sticks
And perhaps hoping we'll make peace in the end.
Perhaps it's wishful thinking
Perhaps it's wilful detachment
That lets me sleep at night
That helps me dream at night
Maybe I'm back to hiding behind the music of my youth
And a history I can at least understand
And perhaps hoping we'll have learned something after all
Could be that I've not given up but just backed away
Stepping back to take a look at the larger picture
And perhaps hoping it makes more sense on the screen
