A Writing Meme!
1) Where do you write?
Before I moved down to NJ, I used to write in the writing nook in the basement of my house. I'm still at the same 'puter now, only I'm in the bedroom overlooking the street. As for other writing (note-taking, plotting, etc.), I write pretty much everywhere. I did a lot of random plot idea work while sitting in on panels while at Worldcon last weekend...so yeah, I try to write whenever, wherever. ;)
2) Do you use/have a laptop?
Umm, yes/no. The laptop is
emmalyon's and I don't use it all that often. She is thinking of buying a second one so we can both use it when we're travelling.
Strangely enough I don't write as much on a laptop, probably because I rarely use one (and probably because I've used only PCs for the last ten years...).
3) What distracts you from writing?
LJ of course! As well as FreeCell, MusicMatch, and Cartoon Network. Right now I'm working on this meme during the commercial breaks between "Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends"... :p
But music does not distract me!
4) What makes you write even more?
Watching movies that I wish I'd written the script for...certain music that inspires various scenes and ideas...a good long uninterrupted afternoon or evening...
5) What do you have set up for yourself so that you can write even more?
Over 10,000 tracks on my MusicMatch. ;)
6) What do you do when you're stuck?
A few games of FreeCell actually calm me down enough to return to the story with a clearer mind. :)
7) Do you write from beginning to end... or do you jump around as the mood suits you?
Beginning to end. The only reason I don't jump around is that most of the time I don't know exactly where the story is going, even if I know the basic plot and how the story ends.
Interestingly enough when I was writing the Infamous War Novel, I'd write some scenes beforehand. I think it was because that was the only story where I've actually plotted the entire plot beforehand.
8) When do you write?
I try to write every day after work. The goal is for at least two hours a day, though that doesn't always happen...
9) If you're a novel-writer of any sort...how do you set up your story, or do you? Do you make outlines, write character descriptions, etc? Or do you just start writing?
Just start writing, though I should try outlines...
Character descriptions I do separately, often during work...
10) How do you stay motivated to write...to keep going, even if you've been rejected time and time again?
It's something I enjoy doing enough that the rejection bit is par for the course. It's part of the job, as it were. :)
