Okay, so all those cds I bought at Amoeba the other day? So I go to put one of them in my cd drive on my new PC and...

...everything freezes. Well, I can move the mouse around, and I can use the Task Manager, but Media Monkey freezes, does the "(Not Responding)" note from Hell, and doesn't even react when I end it using Task Manager. And if I try to run something else, it decides not to work. Nothing responds. No friggin' clue what's kicking it off.

This is a new PC with 6 gigs of RAM and a terabyte of physical memory, people. It SHOULD NOT be doing stupid shit like this. It hasn't before. And yes, I did run all the usual PC cleaning devices recently, so I doubt it's that.

*sigh*

Any ideas? (And no, I do NOT want to hear "this wouldn't happen with a Mac" because I've SEEN it happen with a friend's Mac.)

Actually I disconnected WMP because it kept on trying to update every time I booted up and ate up all kinds of memory doing it. Media Monkey's the only one I've been using and it's been working fine from the start. After having this happen twice, I did a system restore to earlier last week before it started acting stupid, so hopefully I can figure out what happened.

If anything, it wouldn't surprise me if something in Norton decided to scan every single thing in the PC. I only blame it because a new version came out...I'm thinking maybe I updated it wrong.

CDs played before: Yup. As if you had to ask. ;)

Worst Case Scenario: heh, that's actually what I was trying to do! Perhaps it took a look at my collection and decided to revolt. :p

I reinstalled the original Norton and going to run another scan, see if that works. Then maybe reinstall. Or something. ;)
