Okay, so I finally figured out why I ran out of gas so close to the end of Book 3 of the trilogy. Upon reading the last few chapters, it dawns on me that while I was going in the right direction, I kind of lost track of the overall theme of the book. It might be because I was too worried about actually getting the words out to notice, but I really don't think that was it. I'm definitely sure that it was because I just had a lot going on in my life that was a bit more important. I don't want to say that I couldn't multitask--a year or so ago I'd write close to 1k even after a hellish day at work during the 4th quarter--it was just that I had to concentrate on more important things.

I'm posting this basically for myself, but also to reiterate that it wasn't because I'd tired myself out by doing close to 1000 words almost every day for two years straight. I can still write over 500 easily within a few hours (I just have to stop being sidetracked by the TV or a certain fiancée... :p ), and I can still work on more than one story at a time. I know that I've got what it takes to be a professional writer. All I need, though, is to get back into the swing of things.

On a side note, I'm still working on the trilogy reference book, and I think that'll be something that I'll do on the in-between (say, during lunchtime at work or when I'm not at the computer writing). I still think there's a lot of stuff in this world of mine that I can use elsewhere.

So am I going to pick up the trilogy again, now that I've found my focus again?

Hell, yeah! :)

(Oh--and the subject line? I think that's in the running for the new working title for Book 3, as The Process of Belief actually doesn't work at all. :) )

Write On! :-D

Hey Bro,
I only wish I had the stamina to sit and write as much as you have over the years! It was always inspiring to see you head for the Belfry and start tapping away for hours at a time backed by bands I've never heard of (but thanks for expanding my musical horizons over the years:-D!).

I collect ideas, study the craft, make constant observations, but alas, I suffer from what I call "page-fright"...a fancy, punny term for a writer who procrastinates when it comes to the actual process of writing. I am full of ideas, love the process, including revision, yet the hardest part for me is to get to the part where I connect my fingers to the keyboard. I don't know why. Once I'm there, I'm in heaven. So what gives?

I'm glad you found your focus. Maybe that's what I need to do!

Heehee! :) Hey, I'm not the one suddenly leaning over and being all clingy...and...um...wait a minute... ;)

Yeah, I still need to edit. But I need to finish the thing first!!! :)

(And thanks. I was never happy with the Book 3 title anyway...)

It's not a matter of focus...it's just a matter of overcoming that Fear of A Blank Page and just jumping in to do it. Believe me, I've had enough of those days! :) Just sit down and write whatever comes to mind. Remember, you can always edit it later if it stinks! :p

I actually need to sit down and read the books I think, then I'll see what comes to mind.

oh, it's nothing to do with fear of a blank page...like i said i have plenty to write about....i can take one random word and write paragraphs about it...you name the topic and I can do it, and will do it gladly...i think my problem is i've stopped making it a priority...bah! you know me and my piles....i have this "organization first" issue...is there a chocolate-flavored remedy for it? :0D

He gave me copies of the trilogy on CD quite a while back, and a couple chapters of something else last fall. It must be my winning ways....
