53: Last Day at 40

The day's over and the games are nearly done. I've been
awake since four this morning (those damned kids downstairs
suffering from drunken deafness) and I've had about three
heart attacks from all the excitement on the television.
We'd trudged through wind and winter rain to the gym
this morning, where I walked for a half hour before my
exhaustion got the best of me. As I waited for you I saw
all those younger or younger but frustratingly fitter.
For lunch we had nachos and beer and cupcakes.

It's the last day at 40 for me; it's become
the second anniversary of my thirty-ninth birthday.
On the plus side...

The day's over and the games were hella fun. I've been
active since seven this morning (those damned chores
completed quick and clean) and I've had about three
thrilling moments from all the excitement on the television.
We talked about the play we saw last night as we headed to the gym
this morning, where I got a good mile in before my exhaustion
got the best of me. As I waited for you I saw
dedication, friendship, and most important of all, inspiration.
For lunch we had nachos and beer and cupcakes.

It's the last day at 40 for me; it's become
just another day at embracing the day the best I know how.
