40: Mess of Words
Jul. 10th, 2011 06:22 pmSometimes I hid in the corner of the school library,
notebook in hand, watching those around me
oblivious to my vigilance, ignoring my observance
as I wrote what needed saying at that moment.
It's not as if I hated them with a passion,
more that they frustrated the hell out of me
because their actions and words made no sense at all
I couldn't understand how they lived their lives
They never explained themselves, they just acted,
reacted and called it whatever they felt like calling it
Nothing more than surface tension, it seemed
When I saw everything that was hidden down below
And now we're two decades older than that, maybe more
They have their ways, I have mine, we have ours
And with our social networks we hear all the words
even the words we shouldn't be saying aloud
I still have my notebooks in hand, watching the world
As it displays itself to me, endlessly updating
And sometimes I wish I was still there in that library,
Quietly watching those ten or twelve people instead.
