Well, here I am, wide awake, having woken up just before 7am on a Saturday morning. I've got the local news on while I browse the internets, contemplating what I'll have for breakfast or if I should start making the coffee. It's a little overcast (but knowing SF, it's probably jsut low-lying fog and will burn off midmorning), and a bit chilly, but otherwise all is good.

It's going to be a busy weekend all around...it's Fleet Week here, so we'll have the Blue Angels buzzing our apartment current apartment sometime today. There will also most likely be many tourists clogging the sidewalks (and the roads) too, but we're used to that. However, most of today I will be driving between here and our new place, dropping off boxes and other stuff. Not sure how many trips I'll take, maybe three or four, but it'll make a nice dent in what needs being moved.

On Sunday we have Mozart's opera The Abduction from the Seraglio, which should be fun (although getting there may be a trick due to the Italian Heritage parade partially blocking off our normal route to get to the Opera House). Depending on how tired/in pain I may be (not from the opera, of course :p), I may move some more boxes then as well.

And Monday? Unfortunately Emm has to work but I have the day off. w0000t! Which means even more packing and moving!

So yeah. Lots of moving stuff this weekend. Hopefully I won't pull or break anything in the process! :)

Total of three trips to the new place to drop off stuff. It doesn't look like much, but at the same time our bookshelves in the living room are bare now. I believe Monday will be the big PITA, considering I'll be moving a lot of smaller boxes full of books.

In a brilliant move, our new place has some small shopping carts at the bottom of one of the stairwells (used by some of the elderly people in the building so they can bring up their groceries easily), which I put to good use for some of the more unwieldy boxes, so that helped me from hurting my back. If anything, the only thing that hurts are my legs, but in an "I walked around the city all day" tired sort of way, so I can't really complain. I guess I'm in better shape than I expected! It also helps that our assigned parking spot is just a few feet from the side door into the lobby (which itself is across the hallway from the elevator), so it's not as if I have a long way to go!

The drive over isn't too bad, if you know the short cuts. In my case, I realized that cutting up Polk, especially on a really busy day like today, bypasses the traffic on Van Ness. I turn at California and stay there for most of the trip, which is actually pretty calm even on the worst of days (which is why I avoided Geary, which may or may not be backed up). I took California on the way back and cut down Frederick instead of Van Ness, and each time it's been a very quick ride. So, lesson learned: avoid the major corridors on bad days and you can get across town pretty quickly. :)

No moving stuff on Sunday...we have the opera at 2pm and we still need to do some errands when we get back...but I figure we could at least do some more packing and/or arranging. I need to box up the cds that are in the closet and put my writing in the wood file boxes, so I may do that. Monday will be the insane day...hopefully it won't be too bad trafficwise, because I plan on doing a LOT of moving that day!

So...for now I'm just going to sit back and relax and feel happy that I'm no longer stuck in that utterly craptastic traffic jam outside my window...and that I won't be seeing those much longer. ;)
