[Writing] Oooh, that's a good idea...
Nov. 9th, 2007 06:24 pm[NOTE: Hey,
_nimisha_, you might like this news!]
Okay, to preface, I've been reading the Night Watch series by Sergei Lukyanenko and I'm enjoying them a hell of a lot more than I'd expected to. Highly suggested! Anyway, the whole idea behind the Night Watch universe is the time-honored Light-vs.-Dark balance and how, when that balance is disturbed, all hell breaks loose. Add many supernatural characters like psychics, shapeshifters, vampires, werewolves, witches, and whatnot, drop them into post-Soviet Russia, and stir. It's a really fun story, and no, there are no black-clad goth types being all Victorian and kicking ass like ninjas...they're just really creepy people! ;)
Now for what I meant to post about:
The other day I was on my way to work (this was before Emm came home), half-thinking about the Light vs. Dark idea in this series, and it occured to me that this was the same exact idea behind my trilogy. [
_nimisha_, you can commence squeeing now... :p] So I played around with the two stories--Lukyanenko's and mine--and realized exactly what I'd been missing from the trilogy and why I couldn't finish it. Hell, I was so thrilled by this revelation that I very nearly gave into temptation to get off at the next stop, take the next train back, and head straight home to start writing all of this down. Suffice to say, I didn't go that far, but I did start plotting things out in a little notebook while at work.
And the great thing is that it will work. And work PERFECTLY. This is exactly what had been missing all this time in the series, what had fallen by the wayside as I focused too much on the action and forgot about the overall idea behind it.
So yeah.
I think this might be one of the next things I work on after the LLB rewrite.
More soon!
