Some Random Bits:

--Went down to the Mission District yesterday to hang at Borderlands, the science fiction bookstore on Valencia Street. Cool place, has a very good selection (including imports from England)...and [livejournal.com profile] emmalyon made a friend in a very well-behaved and attention-grabbing young dog owned by another customer. We very nearly didn't see Ripley, the store cat, but we were blessed at the last minute by meowing carrying bag while at the register...and out came Ripley, happy to be on terra firma and proceeded to sniff everyting and everyone in the immediate area before dashing off to the back of the store. So we got our kitty fix, so we're happy!

--One of the books picked up? Karl Schroeder's Sun of Suns. One of the lead character names? Admiral Chaison Fanning. This amuses me to no end. I should drop him an email, ask him where he may have gotten that first name... ;)

--On the trip down there we found not one but two random single shoes (not matching) in various parts of the city. Not worn, trashy ones, but newer ones. Whenever I see that, I'm always imagining single-shoe-shod people wandering the streets, wondering why their gait is a bit offkilter.

--Went to eat at Luna Park, which is a few blocks up Valencia from Borderlands. [livejournal.com profile] juniperblue will remember us taking her there on our book run. Good eats (I got their incredibly tasty Monte Cristo sammich again, Emm got a 'Grilled Cheezlitz' with tomato soup, and we both shared an appetizer of fondue with apple slices, grilled bread and gruyere cheese), and got a little tipsy on the Swing Low Sling (gin, guava, lime, cherry syrup). They had a drink there we didn't order but proceeded to make last night, which is basically Dr. Pepper and Absolut Vanilla. Yuuuuu-uuuum. :)

--While waiting for the 49 bus at the corner of Mission and 18th in the Mission District, a motorcycle pulled up to the red light with music blaring out of the speakers. The song? I kid you not: "The X-Files Theme" by Mark Snow.

--Found on Daily Kos this morning, quoted from political blog Feministe, about extreme rightwing nutjobs:
...but they still have better things to do than join the military, but they’ll be happy to go into the woods and hunt Russians and shout WOLVERINES!!
Feministe for TEH WIN!! :p

--Wait, is that the sun? No...oh wait, yes it was...noo....there it goes again...oh hey, there it is again!! D'oh, there it goes...Jeez, it's the beginning of June here, is it too much to ask for maybe a few more degrees of warmth? I'm asking for ten, but I'll do with, say, six or seven...please? Warm now?

--Must pace myself...I only have 36 songs left for the entire month of June on eMusic. How the hell did I use the other 39 (plus the free 25) already?!?? Oh yeah...full albums, that's right... ;)

--Did our food shopping yesterday, as we were dangerously close to having an empty refrigerator. It occurs to me we forgot to give the inside of the fridge a once-over, but I figure we can do that the next time it gets empty. By the way, it amuses me that Safeway has learned from last year and had put up signs near the corn cobs in both English and Chinese saying "PLEASE DO NOT SHUCK THE CORN." You wouldn't believe the number of tiny Chinese ladies that were tearing the things apart last year, causing not only a mess but a bottleneck in the produce section.

--Whose idea was it for Cartoon Network to play Pokemon ALL NIGHT LONG?!?? I need my Naruto and Bo-Bobo fix, damn you!!! (NOTE: Well, it wasn't a total loss...we ended up watching the 2nd Pirates of the Carribean movie, 2 episodes of the 2nd Doctor Who series, and some episodes of One Piece that I'd bought at Amoeba.)

*****************

That's it for now...we plan on just hanging out today, Emm knitting some socks and me doing laundry and continuing with my little IWN refiling project. I'm hoping someone posts soon, as LJ is looking mighty scarce this morning!!
