Best. Brunch. EVAR.
Oct. 29th, 2006 03:34 pmEmm and I took a trip over to Noe Valley (that's pronouced NO-ee if you're curious) to check out, you guessed it, a yarn store, but also to check out the neighborhood. It's a very nice area, and despite what all the online descriptions say, it's not nearly as trendy and upscale as they make it out to be. Like most of the rest of the city, it's just a sizable neighborhood with a lot of low-scale shopping (it's like a cleaner and quieter Haight).
For brunch we stopped at Le ZINC and I had the French Burger, which was quite possibly the best brunch I've ever had in my life...a 1/3 lb burger, topped with a fried egg and roquefort cheese, with lettuce, tomato, bacon and carmelized onions on the side. And no bun anywhere to be seen. But hot damn, was it GOOD!
Down the street we found a used book store called Phoenix Books & Records which is very small but had a very interesting collection of stuff. Including this Beatles book by Mark Lewisohn, which is hella hard to find for a decent price. :)
I quite enjoyed the neighborhood, and it didn't seem to have a very "hey, we're a famous tourist trap" feel to it like the Haight and Fisherman's Wharf and Chinatown have, despite the guidebook descriptions I keep finding...
