Getting set for The Event
Aug. 29th, 2004 03:26 pmWow. I just pulled out the ol' laptop that my sis gave to me when she got her new one. She got this one ages ago (handed to her, actually), and I'm amazed it still works. I just checked the size of the hard drive: .98 gigs. Just...wow. There's not even enough room to put anything useful like FreeCell on it!! Well, I brought this along to the last few cons I've gone to, and I got along just fine with the WordPad program on it. I have to save everything in .rtf format, but that's not a big problem. The main focus is on the writing. IIRC, I ended up doing about 2000-some odd words that weekend and I was quite thrilled by that! :D
I stopped at Wal-Mart and picked up all the "stupid little things" I needed like those travel-sized toothbrushes. I'm keeping them in the Wal-Mart bag until Wednesday night when I hurriedly throw everything in my luggage. Also picked up a mini notebook, which will come in VERY handy. Last time I used quite a few pages in it, not only writing down my proposed schedule for the day but also writing down all the novel titles authors drop (and believe me, at these cons you'll hear many a loud thud). That, and I often get small germs of ideas that I can hurriedly jot down. And practicing writing a short story when you're waiting for another panel is always a good thing.
(NOTE: I said I can't write short stories to save my life. That doesn't mean that I haven't stopped trying to write them.)
BTW, head58, I'll get back to you Monday about how I'm going to go into Boston. I'm most likely going to drive to Alewife and park there, but again I'll let you know.
Alrighty. Gotta get a few more things done here...
