I'm eagerly awaiting my mp3 player to finish recharging, as I'm doing a very tedious and boring volume queue and it's making me fall asleep. I needs my music!!!

Which reminds me:

Hey [livejournal.com profile] head58:
Is it normal for the charge to seriously go down when I'm uploading songs to it? Just curious...

You're not getting a charge through the USB. Are you using a hub?

He's not? What type of player is he using? The iPods all grab a charge from the USB...at least the two we have do. My Rio took batteries. A LOT.

Most USB devices don't charge through a hub. The iPod my roommate had didn't charge through either USB or Firewire. It was a piece of crap. The OS failed on it too! If I got an iFillInTheBlank for free I don't know if I'd bother using it.

It's a Rio Karma, and it doesn't take batteries. Don't know if it pulls power from the USB, but it may not be enough to offset what it is burning through the downloading.

I think that's what's happening. No biggie, though, as I am able to charge it at work anyway (and it just so happens that I can use the cord for my cellphone to charge it so that's not a problem). Just wondered if there was something wrong or if it was just a quirk.

I just checked the manual. Right in the Troubleshooting section, it says flat out that you cannot charge using the USB connector...only when the ac adapter is connected (or to the docking station) can it charge.

I used to really like my Rio Kali...until it suffered an all-to-common problem that Rio refuses to address in their flash players. Now, you couldn't pry my iPod from my cold, dead hands...unless it's to give me ANOTHER iPod. :)

The problem wasn't that I was trying to charge using the USB, it was that uploading songs to the player was taking up an awful lot of juice. I'd have it fully charged and it would go down a little less than a quarter after I was done.
