It's not "universal healthcare" so much as "you need to have health insurance or we will fine you". So if your employer doesn't offer it and you don't qualify for public aid, you are required to pay for your own insurance or you get gypped on your taxes.
They claim so, but no one has actually shown any numbers yet. I work in the insurance biz actually (although not health), and I have very little faith that it really will be. My former roomie, who is self-employed, cancelled his insurance when it went to $500 per MONTH.
