Just got back from visiting the dentist, in which they took all kinds of x-rays and pictures and took a look at a molar I've been having issues with lately. Mind you, the dentist has never been my mortal enemy but I've never enjoyed seeing one because it's always been for one painful issue or another. I've got multiple fillings and root canals (and a wire that's a leftover from my 80s braces days that I've always hated) so whenever I go in, it's usually because something is wrong. I admit that's partly my fault and mainly due to several years of not having quality dental insurance and then out of passive avoidance.
So today's visit was for them to look at -- you guessed it -- a crown that had popped off a few months ago. Why the avoidance then? Well, this time it was due to several dentists in the area not taking the insurance the Day Job had given me, and I really didn't want to pay out of pocket. Time to make do again, just like before, sigh. ANYWAY, new year, new insurance that our local dentist (six blocks away!) gladly accepts, and I decided: it's time.
Time to get some of these things FIXED once and for all. And it occurred to me that thanks to the Former Day Job I'd acquired a decent amount of money in a medical reimbursement account (I begrudgingly thank said FDJ for that) where I might be able to get money back, because I hardly use it otherwise. The dentist gave me a two-part plan: firstly, for a deep-clean (ouch) and a fix on that problem tooth. And second, to replace some of the super old fillings, many of them a good couple of decades old, and fix another tooth that lost a crown a couple of years back.
So yeah, that was my Wednesday morning! And ironically, now that I've had a minor cleaning, I am starving because I still haven't had lunch yet!
