[meme] Day 10. A song that makes you fall asleep

Interesting question, and could be taken more than one way...

In a good way:

Cocteau Twins & Harold Budd, The Moon and the Melodies

Okay, this is an album, not a song, but it's a great proto-ambient work that it's worth it. I used to listen to this when going to sleep in college.

Not in a good way:

The Beatles, "The Long and Winding Road"

Believe it or not, there is one Beatles song that is my least favorite, and this one is it. Paul has always been good at the schmaltz, and most of the time I can deal with it, but this particular song isn't one of his better schmaltzy songs...it's very trite and half-written, in my view. That said, this movie version (and the Let It Be...Naked version) is better than the overwrought Spectorized one.

Y'know, I adore the Cocteau Twins. It's just that I can't find a place on that "thirty days of music" thing for "An album that accompanied virtually every sexual act performed with first great love."

Damn.

That WOULD make for an interesting meme question, wouldn't it? ;)

There might be a meme all on its own.

Song you have good sex to
Song you have had bad sex to
Song you have not had sex to but wish you did
Song you have had sex to and with you hadn't
Song you have had embarrassing sex to
Song you have had humiliating sex to
Song that turns you on whether you like it or not
Song that turns you off in spite of everything

I bet we could get a full 30 days of TMI music questions in there.

But wait, is it proto-ambient? Because you got Eno back inna seventies, I figured he'd have the proto pretty well covered.

Ooh, good point. I was thinking more along the lines of ambient as the internet kids these days see it, but I think you hit the nail on the head there. Maybe just "ambient" in the Eno-sense would work. ;)

Gotta say, Music For Airports and Apollo helped me finish SO many papers in college.
