Friendly Fire

Here's something you don't see in the U.S. newspapers all that often...

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/4496167.stm

Apparently a few of our own were attacked by one of our own over in Iraq. The guy was allegedly "mentally ill at the time of the attacks," according to the story. My question is: why did I not see this anywhere in any US paper? Why did I have to find it at the BBC News website?

I think you just missed it in the flurry of news early in the "war". It was on the news for a day or so and then disappeared as new war news replaced it. I saw it on NBC nightly news when it happened.

That's most likely what happened. I think I was blindsided by that "we're American and will kick your ass" country song back then. ;)

Or the bumperstickers that say "These colors don't run!"? I wish I had had a camera yesterday on the way home. I saw one of those bumperstickers and while the colors hadn't run, they had faded from the sunlight so that only the blue section of the flag could be seen.

MEKKASIMIAN LIKE QUOTE: "HE IS HATE-FILLED, IDEOLOGICALLY DRIVEN MURDER"

PERFECTLY DESCRIBES GWB, NO?

AND HOW AKBAR DESCRIBED AS "NONENTITY"... JUST LIKE IRAQI PEOPLE!

=M=

I saw it on my local news this AM. I've been hearing about it over the past couple of days up here.

And here: it's in the top bunch of links on CNN. http://www.cnn.com/2005/LAW/04/28/akbar.trial.ap/index.html

I've been hearing about it in NPR on and off for months. They reported on the conviction and death sentence on All Things Considered this morning.

I have to confess I haven't gotten my news from the paper in years, but I'm constantly being surprised to hear what people say isn't being printed in them.

Oddly enough I haven't gotten around to looking for an NPR station down these parts. I miss listening to "Wait Wait Don't Tell Me"! :(

As of this Thursday, the tapings are moving here. You'll have to come visit sometime. ;-D

How come I had heard about this(on Yahoo News on my cell phone, no less), and you, who have bogarted the paper every day this week, missed it?
Too much VH1 Classic, that's the problem....
