[Pix] Muir Woods and the GGB
First, for your enjoyment:
Yes, as a matter of fact I can see my apartment from here. Sort of. :p

Now that I got your attention... :p
emmalyon and I woke up insanely early this morning (read: around 6am, about a half hour later than we normal do on a weekday) and drove up to Muir Woods, which I totally forgot is a REALLY quick drive over the bridge and up a bit past Sausalito on some extremely twisty roads. Spent a couple of hours walking through the woods on various paths (up to one on end on the main paved path, and on the way back via a hillside path) and taking pictures of the flora, fauna and the OMGBIG trees. :p
Okay, so most of the woodsy shots are similar, so I'll spare you most of them and post the ones I thought looked neat, like this one that looks like an REM album cover outtake... :p

Yes, redwoods really are that huge. And like to clump together like that.

One of the paths going through the park. We were there so early in the day it was still a chilly 50 or so degrees and most of the plants still had dew on them, as the sun hadn't hit them yet.

A caterpillar! We very nearly stepped on this one, but caught ourselves in time. We saw a few later on, too!

But not nearly as creepy as...

GAH! Almost stepped on this one too! This critter is easily about five or six inches long and had a good trail of slime going. Eww, but also sciencey! :p
And on the way out, we drove up a little further and found Muir Beach Overlook almost by accident, and I'm glad we found it! Check out the views...!!!
Looking north up the coast.

And looking south!

In the center of the picture you'll see Sutro Tower, which is about in the center of SF. Also, if you look to the right of the pic, you'll see evidence of the infamous SF fog that never quite seems to burn off until mid-afternoon in the Sunset district.
Also at this lookout--

Base-end stations! They used these in WWII, especially post-Pearl Harbor to triangulate any enemy ships out in the ocean (they had another group of them down in Fort Funston in the southwestern part of SF working in tandem). How cool is that??
And now what you've been waiting for...

Interesting shot of the bridge with downtown SF in the background. You'll have to blow it up, but if you look closely (right around the 4th cable from the left side) you'll see the "big pointy building" that is the TransAmerica Pyramid. And if you follow that same cable down to the edge of the bay at SF's shoreline, that's around the general area of where we live.
And one more, going over the bridge, taken about halfway across between the two towers:

And yes, I still find it funny to consider going south over that bridge as "heading home". :p
