The Vacation Begins

And as I hoped, it started with us sleeping in until the cats woke us up at 7am demanding to be fed. That's the one thing I actually wanted to do this week: sleep in take my time deciding what I wanted to do that day (if we didn't already have plans). So far so good!

Today was a somewhat late run to Costco, but we are now well stocked in needed things and we managed to survive the chaos that is the parking lot. The one we go to in Colma is right next door to a Trader Joe's so while A started the shopping, I popped in to TJ's for a few other needed things. The traffic today was weirdly busy so it took us a lot longer to get home, so lunch was late and dinner ended up being crackers and cheese.

We spent the rest of the afternoon watching the last three episodes of The Fragrant Flower Blooms with Dignity, an anime on Netflix and a manga I am extremely obsessed with at the moment. On the surface the story does give the sense of "why do these teens have ALL THE FEELS" but let's be honest, we were all like that when we were 15-16. The manga is up to about 170-plus chapters right now, and the new anime series only covered maybe the first forty in this particular 13 episode season. I'm definitely hoping it gets renewed, because it's extremely well done and very faithful to the source material.

And speaking of anime obsession, I hear that Your Name will be playing in Japantown in February and I am extremely tempted to go see it. Another personal favorite that I highly recommend.

SO! Any other plans this week? Aside from more sleeping in, we'll be visiting the in-laws for lunch and maybe heading elsewhere in the North Bay afterwards, going to the Haight tomorrow, and going for lunch and high tea on Thursday (which also happens to be my birthday). Not too much planned, just a vague idea of going outside and enjoying the day. And that's just fine with me.

Hope everyone has a good week!

comments

Time goes by

I've come to the conclusion that I'm really not a night-owl anymore, at least not like I used to be. Part of it is having to wake up at five-ish in the morning for opening shift, and part of it is that A is just not someone that stays up well past midnight all that often. And let's be honest, there's really no reason for me to stay up until 2am like I did during the Belfry Days. Mind you, I do like the occasional sleeping in, but it's very rarely past 7am. (Two cats causing mayhem because they need breakfast will also cause that.)

But really, I've come to enjoy climbing into bed at a reasonably early hour and just chilling with a book for a couple of hours. It's a nice way to wind down, and it's especially a good way to get a good night's sleep as I'm not trying to do so right after staring at a computer screen for a few hours. Doubly so if I happen to be doomscrolling. Which I've been actively avoiding much better these days.

And speaking of getting old, it's probably far past time for me to get a check-up. It's been a while. Not that I'm doing poorly or anything, and I think my BP is a lot lower than it used to be, but age and its attendant limb achiness is starting to creep in, so it's probably for the best that I make sure that it's merely wear and tear and not anything more than that.

comments

This hasn't been a stressful week at work, so why am I feeling so tired?? It could be that I've been doing a LOT of lifting work lately (yesterday was my turn to work on day stock for the entire shift, and some of those boxes are darn heavy!). Or it could be that the weather's been overcast and extremely humid, which added to the occasional allergies floating about, it's all draining me far too quickly. Thankfully I have tomorrow off and I have nothing big planned other than bringing the car in for an oil change and its yearly servicing.

I've been kind of lazy these last couple of weeks as well, to be honest, and that also might have something to do with it. Not lazy *because* I'm tired, but tired because I haven't really been moving around all that much other than at work. And I can tell that might be a valid point...I really need to return to doing stretches again, before or after work (I do some during slow points *at* work out of habit). I have to remember that's the way to get me through these gloomy overcast days.

comments

Running on fumes

Had to work today -- with a fourth open shift in a row -- so my sense of time is all wonky again. Feeling a bit tired and loopy and my back hurts a bit (I slept on it wrong, I think) but thankfully I have the next two days off so I can recover! Then it's another four opens in a row. I can usually handle those just fine, but my sleep patterns have been a bit wonky as of late. I don't think it's stress, but it might just be from staring at my monitor or my phone a bit too long.

So yeah, not sure if I'll be productive today or not, but we shall see.

comments

Tabula Rasa 1

Did I sort of sleep in on my first day post-Day Job? Of course I did! Not too late, though...I got out of bed around 7am, though I was up and drifting in and out of sleep since 5am. I rarely sleep past eight on the weekends these days anyway (partly because I no longer stay up all hours like I used to), and I like enjoying the morning as well. Coffee, breakfast, webcomics, catching up on east coast social media. Plus it gives me more time in the day to do the little creative things like my Daily Words and journaling. I have a few errands this afternoon, but other than that, I have no major plans until further notice.

The only thing that's tripping me up is that my last day landed on a Tuesday and my brain keeps thinking it was Friday and it's now the weekend already. That's gonna take a few days to get used to.

I didn't burn that particular bridge as much as I'd planned, and I think I made the right choice. I did have a long talk with my now-former-manager, though. I did have my issues with him, but he wasn't exactly terrible. Just a staunch play-both-sides-to-keep-things-peaceful kind of person. And it was never about the people; I got along just fine with a lot of people there. It was the bank itself that did me in, and we both came to the same conclusion yesterday, that Upper Management fucked up, and fucked up bad. And I did get confirmation that my former teammates *are* in fact working from home if they so choose -- I'm angry that it took me quitting to get them to make that move, but as I've said before, if my taking the hit so others means that others can remain safe and healthy in this pandemic, then in the end I FUCKING WON.

Meanwhile, now it's time for me to enjoy myself, at my own speed, for a few days. :)

comments
