Midweek Update Is Another Year Older

Monday was my 47th birthday, so I was a little surprised when I got a little nostalgic in my daily journal entry. Not in a Sinatra 'it was a very good year' way, or even a Morrissey 'there's too many bad memories' way for that matter. It was just... kind of a happy nostalgia, that I'm currently happy and content where I am, after too many years of being a miserable moody bastard. Patience and dedication paid off, apparently. It took me almost three decades, but I now have three books out in the wild with one coming soon, and two further books being worked on. I've still got my music. Life can still be stressful (especially when the Day Job kicks my ass), but it's still a hell of a lot better than it was, and I'm happy with that.

If I'm having any midlife crisis, I'm keeping it on the cheap. No interest whatsoever in man caves, sports cars, fancy clothes or expensive food. It's the blue-collar guy in me... I find a lot of that kind of frivolous and fleeting. The only major spending I do really is to my music collection. I mean, yeah, I'm once again questioning why I'm still at the Day Job when what I'd really like to do is go full-on self-employed with book covers, writing, and other things more focused on my writing career. I'd so love to donate more time to that. Maybe soon, I don't know. I still need to do a lot of serious thinking and planning about that.

That said, I'm glad to say the new regimens are still being followed pretty solidly, with very few occasional lapses. The most surprising thing is that I'm not feeling exhausted in the process. It's all about time management, to be honest. Less time screwing around online; consistently using spare moments throughout the day; doing it right then instead of 'I'll get to it'. Oddly the only response I've gotten mentally or physically is that my dreams have been more vivid lately. Not that I'm complaining, of course, considering I get good ideas there!

We've also been making sure that we get to the gym at least twice a week. Sometimes it's exhausting, but it's worth it by the end of the day. I sit on my butt for hours on end anyway, so getting my body in motion more often is definitely a good thing. Gotta get rid of that spare tire, y'know!

comments
