Thankfully my cough and congestion lasted a mere couple of days and I was back to work on Friday. Speaking of which, my hours have been cut back a few per week and I'm only doing about 30 - 32 rather than the 35-38, and I have it on good authority that it's basically just that time of the year when it quiets down a little bit. There aren't any major holidays coming up until Easter and Memorial Day that would affect a grocery store. Which is fine with me as I'm still getting over thirty hours, they're glad to have me there, and our store is actually one of the better ones in terms of sales!

Also in the day job universe, glass cases have now been installed on sections of two aisles. One is the biggest improvement: the hard liquor that wasn't already locked up. [The usual cast of idiots would always hit our vodka, whiskey and tequila but rarely anything else.] The other, as you will probably have already guessed, is the toiletries such as meds, detergents and cleaners. It's kind of sad that so many stores have had to do this, even despite getting security as we have, but we're doing out best to make the wait as minimal as possible. We still get so many customers coming in saying how much they love our store, and I've even gotten personal thanks from a few who thought we did an ace job helping them.

Meanwhile...I'm still working on the social media detox. It's gotten to the point on the phone where I uninstalled one of the web browsers and removed one from the screen. I do find that the Out of Sight Out of Mind Method of avoiding distraction works pretty well for me, so let's see if this works. It's another thing entirely here in Spare Oom, but I'll figure out something. There's also the issue of Avoidance here at the PC -- I know I need to work on the MU4 project, like, NOW, but hey maybe I should blog first or wait time for dinner hmm I should probably clear out my emails oh damn it all it's 8pm already too late to start anything.

Time to remind myself: just shut the f*** up and DO it already!

Anyhoo...hope everyone has a good week ahead!

comments

I am sick for the first time in I don't know how long. Stuffy nose, scratchy throat, congestion, and migraine. This is actually the first time since I started my Day Job last March that I called out...! I probably should have called out yesterday as well, as I only got about halfway through the shift before I tapped out and left early. I suppose it's for the best, considering I'd rather not be sniffling and coughing at a grocery store, yeah?

I'm thinking it's a cold that's been going around some people at the store, and I'm hoping that it goes away quickly enough. I don't have anything planned today other than just chilling and hoping I'll feel better.

comments

Bleh. Exhaustion and sore throat. This is what happens when I have too many things going on and overdo it. This used to happen to me ever 4th Quarter at the candle warehouse, when I'd run myself so ragged that I'd make myself sick and miss days of work and writing. This time out it was due to multiple events one day after the next, on top of the Day Job and squeezing my writing in there as well. Hopefully with rest and working at a slower pace I'll feel better soon enough.

Of course, this is when I get cranky, because the last thing I want to do is stop writing, especially since I've been on a roll the last couple of weeks. I mean, it's not as if I'm overexerting myself all that much. I'm just hitting my words. I suppose if I truly feel like crap and can't seem to come up with words in the first place, then it's time for me to call it and take a day or two off. I could have written some stuff yesterday before we headed out to the symphony, but I decided it was probably better for me not to. Besides, my writing rules state that weekends are optional. I haven't hit them yet today, but we'll see how I feel a little later.

I'm also writing my blog posts to schedule for the beginning of the week. Those I don't worry about too much either -- I can usually whip those out in a half hour, especially if I already know what I'm going to blather on about.

But yeah... one of the biggest mixed blessings about living in California is that I rarely get sick. I say 'mixed' because on the one hand I'm happy that I'm rarely ever bedridden feeling like crap, but on the other my Day Job sick time is wasted because I so rarely use it. [Granted, I'm also Catholic so using sick time for anything other than actually feeling sick makes me feel guilty. Not that that stops me, though.] And on the third hand, when I DO feel sick, I feel grouchy, grumpy, irritable, and annoyed. It's the Bert in me that wants to get everything done and my body telling me otherwise.

Still... we'll see how I feel tomorrow, if I should call in or if I'll soldier on.

comments
