Doin my Civic Dooty
I love this city. Our mayoral race included:
--Gavin Newsom, the incumbent (and actually a very smart, funny, no-bull kind of guy, even despite his past controversies including alcoholism and mackin' on a coworker's wife) and likely winner...
--Chicken John Rinaldi, local "showman" (that's what it says on the ballot), musician, politician, and all around crazy man...
--Michael Powers, local nightclub owner...
--Harold Hoogasian, a local florist/coffee farmer...
--George Davis, writer and nudist (beware, there's a few NSFW pictures of him on his site)...
--and Grasshopper Alec Kaplan--Vegan taxicab driver (who actually drove around our neighborhood a few nights ago shamelessly plugging himself in his cab using a loudspeaker) who wants to legalize everything including pot and prostitution.
(There were 5 other candidates as well, and they probably had a little more going on upstairs than most of the people I listed...)
Did I say I love this city? ;)
Some of the props listed were more money for MUNI to get their act together, free wifi in SF, more money for local libraries, and a few "we just want to piss Gavin off" props like creating more parking spaces in town (umm....where??).
It was a quick ballot and it took all of two minutes to fill out, but at least I can say it wasn't boring. ;)
